and its Borderland

by I L Wedley

Following a serialised publication of this material in the Kidderminster Shuttle this book version was published in 1936. Earlier related publications by Wedley include: 'Twixt Severn and Time', 'Old Stourport' and 'Bewdley and Its Surroundings'.

This is a somewhat personalised history of Kidderminster but covers a lot of ground derived from many sources. There are places when a little circumspection is advised; for instance when he describes the early development of the Carpet industry in Kidderminster by Pearsall and Broom. Nevertheless, if you seek information about the history of Freemasonry, Friendly Societies or Music in the town then you will find information here that would be difficult to find elsewhere.

The book was in the collection of Ernest Hodgkins, once Headmaster of St Mary's Boy's School and a co-member with Wedley of the Kidderminster Field Club. It was handed down through the family to Hodgkins' Grandson Roger Baulk. On his decease Roger's wife Bobby made it available so that this transcription could be produced and it can be accessed by using this link:
