Memories of Hoo Road in the 1940s and 1950s

Dave Berry was brought up in the lower reaches of Hoo Road on the hill stretching up from Worcester Cross. Melvyn Thompson, a former colleague at Carpet Trades, and Bob Millward have collaborated with Dave to record his memories of that area of Kidderminster which became one of the many casualties of the ring road construction.

The aerial picture dated 1914 illustrates the region of Hoo Road being considered. Worcester Cross is just off picture to the left of the School (Worcester Cross School). Constitution Hill was just below the brow of the the hill not far from the Harrier's football stadium (off picture to the right). Hoo Road provided an extended backdrop to the carpet factory sites that were spread out along Green Street and New Road.
